If you have extra students in your group, they can be part of the audience for the first round and play during the subsequent rounds. If you have fewer than eight students, invite parents, other children, or observers to participate. If you'd like, you can participate. (Stuffed animals will have to sit this one out . . .) Another option is to use fewer cards, but make sure they are sequential without a gap.
Hold cards face down and fan them out so students can each draw one card. "As you draw your card, be careful not to look at what note or rest you drew. Hold it up in front of your mouth, and keep it there throughout the game until I say you can look at it."

"Cards stay over your mouths throughout the game. Eafh of you is responsible only for yourself. You may not look at your own cards, talk, gesture, or make any noises or faces."
If you find that the students are unable to abide by these guidelines, smile, politely hold out your hand, and ask them to return your cards to you. Everyone redraws cards. Hopefully, this will nicely assure them that you are serious about these rules.
