In Brief:
Students take turns drawing cards, one at a time, from each other’s hands to form pairs (equal rests and notes) and runs (one each of the three dotted notes). The game has a lot of action and since the pairs and runs are placed face up repeatedly, it gives all the students ample learning opportunity.
Objectives:
Match notes and rests pairs and place the dotted rhythm values in order
Prerequisite Concepts:
Ability to read and do Blue Jello hand signs for the blue jello cards set 1 (side 1)
Ability to distinguish between the various shapes of the notes and rests
Understanding of the sequence of whole, half, quarter, eighth and sixteenth notes and rests
Understanding of which notes match which rests
Understanding that the dot adds value to the note it follows
Teacher's Role:
Play the game with students and make suggestions as needed. Usually they need to be reminded to name the cards as they lay them down.
Repetitions:
Game takes about 10-15 minutes. Game may be repeated in later sessions
